Built in 1928, the Riverside Inn is soon to be destroyed once it's purchased by FEMA. Built along a small creek called the Finley River, this venue serves as a restaurant in Ozark, Missouri and its walls contain the artwork of building visionary and original owner, Howard Garrison. The popularity of the establishment grew during Prohibition where customers could get just what they were looking for and Mr. Harrison spent time in jail for showing folks a good time during this period.
In 1959 my father-in-law took his girlfriend to Riverside Inn and asked her to marry him. Fifty years later, I entered the Riverside Inn for the first time as it hosted the couple's 50th anniversary celebration in 2009. These images are not a full documentation of all the intricate details found on the premises, but they were the most I could capture in a short amount of time.
Years of high waters along the Finley flooded the building, including some five times in 2009 alone, pushing FEMA to purchase the property outright which will surely solidify the demolition of the building. Certainly not before more pictures are snapped and an auction divvies up the decorations found inside, many of which you'll find in this collection of photos.
