Being in the right place at the right time with camera in hand has its advantages. This site is home to a varied collection of images captured by David Boesch including the mystifying, yet captivating frost flower formations that appear when frost settles in throughout the Fall. Pick Your Frost Flower
This relatively unknown phenomenon has several names including Frost Flowers, Ice Ribbons, Ice Flowers and Ribbon Ice. They form under ideal conditions and in Missouri are most common in undisturbed fields, forming along the base of White Crownbeard stalks (also known as Frostweed). To find these takes patience and pre-dawn searching in the late Fall when temperatures dip below freezing. As the sun rises, these amazing formations melt away quickly and return to the ground.
These intricate creations testify to the great mastery that was breathed into the formation of this Earth, taking on shapes and forms that escape description.
